  Introduction

Lives of luxury are not always what they are cracked up to be.

Sometimes you have to step outside of your comfort zone and take advantage of situations as they arise.

Liz Chesterfield is a bored, neglected housewife. When her always-absent husband sends a new lawn boy, he starts off on the wrong foot, but eventually earns his way into her good graces.

  And then some.

This is a reverse harem story, where one woman gets the opportunity to see what it feels like to be surrounded by five gorgeous men who have been charged by her husband to make sure she’s happy with their service.

If he only knew how far they were willing to go…

  Chapter 1

I looked out the window and felt frustrated; I was ready to pace. Donnie had been gone for four days on his latest business trip, and it was his third trip this month. We had been married for three years but I had seen him less than six months total during that time. He had never traveled that much before the wedding, but this had become our new normal. It was not a normal I was prepared to maintain, yet damned if I had any control over it.

It would be another three days before he came back home so pacing was not going to cut it. I had to find something else to do to work out my frustration.

Unfortunately, I had read every book in the house, spent loads of time learning to cook new dishes, started and stopped multiple art projects, and purged so much from our house that Marie Kondo would be proud.

I needed a new distraction, and I needed it quickly.

I walked over to the large bay windows overlooking the front grounds. We had a fairly palatial estate, thanks to Donnie’s big job. He brought in plenty of money, I just did not get to have my husband in the process. The lawn was sprawling, the cherry blossom trees along the driveway were in bloom, and there were massive white and pink chrysanthemum blooms flowering throughout the bushes in front of the windows. It was a stunning view, and one of my favorites in the house.

On days like today, when I felt most itchy and irritable, I did not want anything out of place, unkempt, or less than its most beautiful self. That included me. So today I had gotten dolled up, including makeup and hair, and I was wearing the most beautiful deep sapphire blue negligee set I owned. Small teardrop diamond earrings that matched my fat diamond wedding and engagement rings added a bit of sparkle and light to my otherwise seductive outfit. I knew what I was wearing on a Wednesday morning would be laughable to my friends, and certainly inappropriate for any deliveries to the house, but if I couldn't be taken out on dates by my husband the least I wanted was to feel glamorous when he was away.

The staff all knew to avoid eyeing me when I exercised my right to privacy in my home. They were exquisitely trained servants that enjoyed the usually easy workloads while also earning some of the strongest salaries in the industry.

Sadly, looking out the window did very little to lift my mood. I noticed a few weeds growing helter skelter throughout the yard in dire need of tending, my sculpted trees needed a bit of cutting back, and several of the chrysanthemum blooms had died on the vine and needed to be groomed. Where was the good grounds help when you needed it?

I threw myself down on the chaise in front of the windows and wished with all my heart that I had some useful form of entertainment. Something to stimulate my days. Three years of near solitude, taking class after class, socializing with ladies who lunch at the club, doing charity work, it was also very…pedestrian. My life had withered to the point of being bland. I needed something new. But I didn't know what.

  Chapter 2

I woke up the next morning and decided today would be another beautiful lingerie day. Great fashion seemed to be the only high point of my life, so I indulged myself.

Perusing the endless drawers of lacy things I decided on a finely crafted black half bra that lifted and separated the girls, completely exposing my areolas. Add to that a pair of matching panties cut high on the thigh and also high over each cheek to accentuate my rear assets; I felt ready for the day.

I liked feeling beautiful, and if I could not dress for my husband, then I would at least dress for myself.

Before I finished dressing, I decided to run down for a quick cup of coffee. I donned a white and bold floral print satin robe and headed downstairs. The house staff were surprisingly absent, so I made my way into the dining room where my first meal was always served. I often took dinner out on the veranda, weather permitting, but breakfast was always in here, in case I did not feel like getting dressed. Like today.

I walked over to the buffet and eyed the fresh-baked croissants and fresh fruit as I passed them. I instead reached for a coffee cup. I poured myself a serving, black, and then placed the cup on a saucer before taking a sip. Looking ou
t the floor-to-ceiling dining room windows, I again saw the telltale signs that my landscaping was in desperate need of being manicured. The sight made me groan in frustration.

When would I be able to get a new crew to come? I had fired the last one because they could not come consistently enough for my taste. I really wanted a team that could be here every day doing something productive. Most crews wanted to service my account on a once or twice weekly schedule. But they would often skip me or arrive too late in the day to get everything done. Especially when they ran into trouble on another job somewhere else.

That did not work for me. I liked feeling more of a priority than that.

Just then the doorbell rang. I paid little attention, because I had employees to take care of that. Employees who were discreet, loyal, and keenly adapt at staying out of sight when they were not needed.

The doorbell rang again. My brow furrowed. They had been trained to answer on the first ring, so I was surprised that it continued.

On the third ring I went to the door and pulled it open with one hand as I held my dressing gown closed with the other. My coffee, now set aside, was cooling, much to my increasing frustration, so I was nonplussed to be answering my own door. I do not like to be interrupted when I do not plan it to be interrupted. So, it had better be somebody good.

The door swung open and standing there in front of me was a young man so perfectly fit and so perfectly virile that I was a bit taken aback. My hand unknowingly reached for my hair to smooth it up at the nape of my neck which caused my dressing gown to open slightly. I am not a shy woman, but I am also not quick to disrobe for a stranger. Feeling the cool breeze and his quick glance downward I blushed and scrambled to cover myself. I liked knowing that his pupils dilated slightly and his jaw tensed, letting me know I had an effect on him physically. That was the best compliment I’d had in a very long time.

He was a tall man, at least 6’2”. Black hair and eyebrows, clean shaven, and his polo shirt was unbuttoned at the neck which seem to show a smooth chest beneath it. My favorite.

He was younger than me by 10 years, maybe less, and in great shape. A hard body, through exercise or work I couldn't be sure, but he certainly had good genes to start with. My physical response was a strong one; I wanted my hands on him instantly; he made my mouth water.

I realized then I had not spoken to him yet. We had just sized each other up in silence. I coughed.

  “May I help you?”

He coughed as well, and then had the good grace to blush. He moved three fingers up to rub on along his brow line to refocus his thinking.

“Hi there, I'm sorry. I have lost my manners. My name is Alan. I am here to meet with the mistress of the house. Are you Liz?”

Ahh, given the logo on his shirt and the worn jeans he was wearing I surmised he was head of the new grounds crew. Or at least their salesman. Maybe a foreman, maybe only designated to be a representative. I was not sure.

“You may call me, Mrs. Chesterfield.”

My tone was directive and pointed. I do not allow overfamiliarity with staff, and I did not want this to get off on the wrong foot. I was his employer, and it was his job to respect that. Donnie must have hired them.

“Yes ma'am,” he nodded his head once. “My apologies, I was just-”

“I am not a ‘ma’am.’” I barked at him, insulted at his insinuation of our age difference. “You may call me Mrs. Chesterfield, or Miss, or Ms., but do not for one second think you will ever get away with ‘ma'am.’”

  Chapter 3

“Yes, Ma- … uh … Yes, Mrs. Chesterfield. My deepest apologies. Your husband hired us to replace the last crew. We were told to provide you with full service, and to follow your instructions explicitly, no matter what they were. Your husband said that providing you with anything you need should be our only goal.”

His eyes glanced downward quickly and then back up. Indicating the most subtle innuendo imaginable, but it was not lost on me. Not with the heat that was igniting between us, despite my irritation with him. He seemed respectful and clever. A deadly combination in one so handsome.

“Your husband indicated that he would be gone for at least the remainder of the month, and we were to come by as frequently as you needed to care for you and the grounds. If you are open to it, we would like to get started today.”

His smile was brilliant and charming. His eyes twinkled, and he leaned forward when he spoke. He seemed accustomed to being fully engaged. And he likely was accustomed to getting what he wanted.

But what the hell! Donnie tells them that he is going to be away an extra week? Since when did I get demoted from being his wife? Damn it to hell.

I realized I was starting to feel taken advantage of; unimportant and unloved. An afterthought.

I shook my head. I needed to focus on something else.

“How many are in the crew?”

“There are four of us today. But if you need more…?”

Again, with the smiling. Another innuendo?

“No, four will do. For now, anyway. But I want this place cleaned up today. I need perfect views from every window. No debris left behind, an organized approach. Dedication to your craft. And I will be watching. I need you to be really good at what you do. Or I won't be happy.”

“Yes, ma-…yes Miss. As you wish.”

I rankled at his near miss of saying ‘ma’am’ for the third time. How old do I actually look!

“You will see, we will take care of you right. Exactly the way you want.”

He smiled broadly, again with the slightest edge of innuendo, and gave a slight bow before he departed.

  Chapter 4

I went up the grand staircase to my rooms. I needed to finish dressing for the day. Especially with a new man crew on the land. I did not want to be caught off guard again. They might need to come in for beverages or to use the restroom.

When I got to my bedroom I walked over to the windows and saw that they had pulled their truck and trailer up to the barn. They had gotten out and were unloading to stage there. Another detail that Donnie must have given them. Another thing he failed to tell me. Either that or they were acting entitled and presumptive, which was unlikely. But it was just like Donnie these days to handle details for me, rather than consulting about them with me as a partner.

I took off my robe and threw it on the ground and all I wanted to do is to stomp on it. I was furious.

I did not like the way he called me ‘ma'am.’ As if I was an old woman shuttered in a house and in need of tending. As if he had to wear kid gloves. As if I was past my prime. Damn it to hell I hoped to not ever need a man.

My hands reached up for my face and I wondered if there were signs of age that I had not noticed. I did not feel any, thankfully.

As I watched them unload, I tried to pick out which one was Alan. Finally, I spotted him. He was as muscular as each of the others, but his black hair and smooth face gave him away. The only other fellow with black hair had a mustache.

I stepped forward, holding open both sides of the curtains, watching them lift bags of sod and unload equipment. I could not help but be affected by their brawn. I felt such a need for that kind of masculinity. The hard sweat and their sinewy muscles that were so well earned from honest labor.

I suddenly remembered again that he had called me ma'am, and that he had so much more information about me and what was expected of him than I had. It made me angry at him all over again. It did not seem fair that he was also so damn handsome. That was like a thorn shoved deep in my side.

He was mesmerizing. I watched them laugh and chide each other over jokes I could not hear. Lifting heavy things with ease. Cajoling and slapping each other on the back after a good joke was shared. There was lots of congeniality between them it seemed.

When was the last time I was around others that I enjoyed that much? When was the last time I felt that free? Happy to be involved in a task that was so rewarding. Happy to
share a camaraderie that only those of us inside of it understood the real depth and connection.

Yes, that's what I was missing in my life. Depth, a shared camaraderie, and connection. I want some of that.

Just then I saw him look up toward me and come to a full stop. I realized how little I was wearing and felt my nipples harden in response, knowing how much of me he could see. I paused only the slightest bit before stepping back and away from the windows, covering myself as I did.

  Chapter 5

The next morning, I spent reading and replying to emails. Then I decided to have lunch right after my yoga. I went upstairs to change, grabbed my yoga mat, and went out on the stone terrace.

It was a sweeping terrace that stretched across the entire length on the backside of the house. The barn was over to the far left, a small lake sat at the bottom of a gently sloping hill below the terrace, and the pool was positioned over to the right and extended toward some woods that were a bit of a distance behind it.

It was a stunning view. Well, at least when the ground was tended well.

I rolled my mat out flat and began to stretch. Hands over my head. Reaching for the sun, to bring it down and relax me. This was my favorite form of meditation. And for as lonely as I was, it was the few minutes out of each day that I was able to disconnect from that feeling. To feel at one with nature, and to really get into the relaxation of my body.

It was as hot as hades outside today, but I used the heat to focus. Breathing in and out.

I moved into the hero position, kneeling comfortably while resting back on my heels with my hands relaxed on my thighs. Then I moved up into the gate position, one arm stretched for the heavens while the rest of me held a sideways lunge. By the time I shifted into my fourth position the riding lawn mower came around the corner and began sculpting the lawn below the terrace. I growled in frustration.
